Write a 1-2 page evaluation of one (1) book.
You do NOT have to read the entire book to write a book evaluation.
Your goal is to evaluate your source (=book) based on C.R.A.P. (Currency, Reliability/Relevancy, Authority, and Purpose) criteria and provide your verdict on whether the book is an appropriate scholarly source for your academic research.
Your paper should be a Word document (double spaced) that should include:
An APA-style Title Page A 1-2 page book evaluation that consists of:
1st paragraph – A brief introduction (book title, author, purpose of the book)
2nd paragraph – A brief summary of the book (or a chapter of the book) with a direct (short) quotation (Your direct quote should be SHORTER than 40 words long. Don’t forget the in-text citation!)
3rd paragraph – An evaluation of the source based on your answers on the Evaluation Worksheet.
Do not just state the fact. You must describe your findings. Example: “The book was published by the University of Michigan Press and written by an author who has a PhD in Sociology. Considering that it was published by an academic press and written by a researcher in the related subject field, it is considered a scholarly book.”
4th paragraph – Your conclusion to your evaluation – Is the source relevant/credible for your academic research? Why or why not?
An end References List with three (3) book citations that you exported from NoodleTools – Although you only cited one of the books in your evaluation, include all three book citations in your References list for practice purposes.
Attached is also an example of the evaluation.
