Natural is Good: Species and environmental features left alone in their natural state of existing is
always good. Disturbing such systems with artificial/synthetic intrusions is bad. Thus, we should
leave natural biospheres, landscapes, etc., alone and always work to preserve/protect the
environment in its natural state.
Counter:
Contra-Natural is Good: What does it mean for something to be “natural”? Assuming humans
are natural; and that the products of natural species are natural, wouldn’t it thereby follow that
human creations are just as natural and good as mountains, streams, etc.? If so, then why think
that protecting a “natural” mountain of landscape is any more or less important/good than
protecting a “natural” human mining operation, parking lot, cityscape, etc.? Might “natural”
human creations like building, bridges, etc., be just as worthy of existence and proliferation as
forests of trees, bird nests, whole species of fish, etc.?
